The Minority Leader in Parliament Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has called for a review of $98 million deal involving Smarttys Production and Management Limited to ensure value for money in the country.
But the deal has been approved by Parliament, he claimed that the Majority used its number to push the suspicious deal through on the last day of sitting before the Christmas break.
Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu alleged that Smarttys is fronting for a Chinese firm in the $98 million electrification deal with the state.
“We are willing to come back on [the various contracts]…we will be firmed on that, we will attend to that,” the Minority Leader asserted.
The fallout from the bus branding saga involving the Smarttys led to the resignation of the Minister of Transpor, Dzifa Attivor.
Her resignation comes barely a day after a report was presented to the Chief of Staff; Mr. Julius Debrah, following an investigation he demanded into the controversial contract.
Details of the investigative report have not been made public yet. It is thus unclear why the Minister has chosen the path of resignation even before the report is made public.
