No Timetable for Load shedding As Christmas Beckons

With barely two days to Christmas, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is yet to decide on a schedule for the festive season following growing concerns over the availability of power during the yuletide.

Although the power barge is said to have commenced power generation, the Ghana Gas Company is facing an imminent shut down on December 25 due to a 10.5 million dollar debt accruing from unpaid facility insurance and a faulty compressor which requires replacement.

The Public Relations Manager at ECG, William Boateng, said a decision on a time-table for the festive period will be arrived at after a stakeholders meeting scheduled for later today.

“We have seen an improvement in the generation but we are unable to tell you the projection ahead unless we hear from our supplies, I am not with generation but based on what GRIDCO is telling us, Mr. Boateng said. “Until all stakeholders meet, then we will come out with a statement, ECG alone cannot how we are going to handle the holidays,” he added.
