MTN Ghana, in collaboration with Ericsson, has deployed Digital Office Technology (DOT) in its Data Flagship Store in Osu.
The radio DOT system is a breakthrough solution that boosts indoor mobile coverage and capacity, and is one of the state-of-the-art products that MTN is delivering in the Ghanaian telecommunications market to provide seamless coverage to its consumer and business customers.
Speaking on this achievement, Ibrahim Misto, Acting Chief Technical Officer for MTN Ghana, said, “Current indoor solutions present complexity, scalability and service continuity limitations that can restrict user experience.
Sometimes signals can be blocked by walls or other obstacles, or even by other signals which cause data speeds and user experience to degrade. It is in addressing this that MTN is deploying the DOT to ensure that our customers always get the best experience on the network regardless of where they find themselves.”
The broadest range of in-building deployment scenarios of the DOT technology makes it suitable for the under-served, high growth, medium-to-large building and will therefore enhance MTN customers’ access to ultra-high mobile High Speed Packet Access (HSPA+) internet speeds and voice clarity regardless of their location.
With more people now using mobile devices indoors, MTN’s objective is to ensure a seamless outdoor to indoor mobile experience for the customer.
The company plans to deploy the DOT technology in other locations and thereby eradicate the frustration of losing a conference call or video streaming session simply because one is moving into a building.
The new smart creative DOTs are connected and powered via standard internet Local Area Network (LAN) cables to indoor radio units that link to a base station.
Deployments and upgrades of the fit-in-the-palm DOT are very simple and address growing capacity and coverage requirements. Currently the Digital Office Technology has been deployed in MTN Osu branch office which serves hundreds of customers in a day.
MTN Ghana has stated that its position as the network of choice, with approximately 15 million subscribers in a 32 million subscriber market, is the result of systematic, strategic investments and upgrades that enable the company to continue to deliver the most reliable voice and mobile broadband network to Ghanaians.
In line with its vision of leading the delivery of a bold new digital world, MTN has earmarked $103 Million to invest in its network infrastructure in 2015 after having invested over $2.4 billion from 2006-2014.
